Lane Filtering

May 2017 - the South Australian government legalised lane filtering on SA public roads for motorcyclists in stopped or slow moving traffic at speeds of 30kph or below for R and R Date class licensed classed riders (providing the rider is required to display an L or P Plate).

Under current law, it is illegal for a rider in S.A. to undertake filtering in stopped or slow moving traffic travelling below 30km/h despite it being shown to be up to 6 times safer for the rider, whilst also reducing queuing and decreasing travel time for other motorists.

Simplified Control Rules

December 2016 - the South Australian government introduced simplified control laws allowing riders in SA to adjust their riding position including removing their hand from the grip, their foot from the peg or their behind from the seat.

Under current law, it is illegal for a rider in S.A. to adjust their riding position if it involves removing their hand from the grip, their foot from the peg or their behind from the seat
